New Rugby
Association Established
Great changes are ahead for Northern California (NorCal)
youth rugby.
The Northern California Youth Rugby Association (NCYRA) was
recently
formed at an Annual General Meeting (AGM), held in Dixon on
August 4th.
Approximately 50 NorCal coaches and administrators attended
the meeting
and unanimously approved the formation of the association.
The NCYRA
has applied for State Based Rugby Organization (SBRO)
status with USA
Rugby, the national governing body. Many states in
the US have formed
their own SBRO.
The new association will coordinate, guide and represent
all of the
NorCal youth Clubs (high school and below) into the future.
There are
currently more than 40 Youth Clubs in NorCal, with more
than 70 Teams,
including 1,800 high school players, 600 junior high, and
600 youth.
The NCYRA is establishing well defined Conferences,
including the
following:
Boys High School Varsity A
Girls High School Varsity A
Boys High School Varsity B
Boys Junior Varsity (Frosh/Soph)
Junior High School
Under 12
Under 10
Under 8
In addition, the NCYRA has a Board of Directors, composed
of the
individual Conference Representatives and the Officers, and
several
Committees, including the following:
Public Relations
Budget
Boys High School
Girls High School
Junior High
Youth
Inter-Conference Competition
Inter-Conference Disciplinary
High Performance (All-Stars)
A strategic plan is being devised, which will include
Coaches training
and development courses, Coaches recruitment and retention,
Player
training and development course, High Performance
(All-Star) competition
and organization, a comprehensive Play-Off structure, etc.
The future looks bright for NorCal youth rugby, and Dixon
RFC will be
involved the whole way.
Fund-Raising
We are planning a couple of fund-raising events this fall
to pay off several debts the club is carrying. Please
respond generously with your time when invited to help
out.
Board
Meeting
Our
DRFC Board Meeting is the 1st
Thursday
of every month. Our next meeting will be on
Thursday, September 2nd, at 6:30 pm at the
Salaber Associates, Inc. office, located at 180 South First
Street, Suite 10. The meetings are only one (1) hour
long. The September meeting will focus on fall
fund-raising. Even if you are not a Board Member we could
use help with other issues, and particularly more members
on the committees: fundraising, social, public relations
and management. Please attend, it is as much a part
of the rugby program as the coaches and players. It
is a great social outlet and very rewarding to be part of
your son's rugby experience.
Nick
Salaber - High School All-American
Nick
Salaber was invited to the USA Rugby High School
All-American Development Camp. The Development Camp is the
next step for the best High School players in the country
to play on the High School National Team. It's a real
testament to Nick's skill and the Dixon RFC for him to be
selected.
Nick was one of four players from Northern California high
schools attending the camp. He competed in the #8 position.
If he is selected for the next phase, Winter Camp and some
matches will be held over the New Years holiday break. The
National Team goes on tour in the summer of 2011.
Best of luck to Nick!
