SEASON FINAL!
Well, the season is over for all of the Teams except the Boys Varsity Gold Team, which is headed for Sandy, Utah, for the USA Rugby National High School Invitational Tournament on May 18/19.
This past weekend, at the NCYRA Playoffs and Championships, it did not go as well as we had hoped, as our Boys Varsity Team lost in the NCYRA Championship Match to Jesuit by a score of 24 - 25. It was a nail biter, but unfortunately, the Jesuit boys just seemed to have more determination in the early minutes of both halves, and Dixon ran out of time in an impressive comeback effort. The Girls Varsity Team also lost an equally difficult match against Pleasanton in the Finals. The match ended in a tie, 14 – 14, and it went to sudden-death drop goals. In what can only be characterized as the luckiest kick ever made, Pleasanton won the battle and the Girls Varsity also took 2nd Place in the NCYRA Girls Varsity Silver Division. For Dixon to lose two Championship Matches by a combined score of just one (1) point is a bitter pill to swallow, but it is nothing to be ashamed of. Our Varsity Teams had spectacular, undefeated seasons, and the boys and girls deserve great accolades and should be very proud of their accomplishments. The really impressive part of the story is that 11 of the starting Varsity Boys are returning next year, and 14 of the 15 girls are returning. Dixon will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come! The Junior Varsity also suffered a tough loss on Friday night to McClatchy on the last play of the match, by a score of 24 – 17. They went on to handily defeat Christian Brothers in the Consolation Match on Saturday by a score of 31 – 12. All-in-all, even though the results were not what we had hoped for, it was a weekend to be proud of. Dixon has come a long way in the last 6 years, and the stars are the limit.
FUN STUFF!
The End of the Year Banquet is scheduled for either Monday, May 28th (Memorial Day) at 5:00 pm, or possibly Monday, May 21st at 5:00 pm, at the Jess Jones Winery off Highway 113. If you have a strong preference for either date, please reply to this email. We would like to have it on May 28th, unless there is a groundswell of opposition.
As always, the Dixon RFC is in the May Fair Parade. All Middle School and Under 12 Players are strongly encouraged to participate with our standard line-out and backline run down North First Street. Show up at 9:30 am along B Street and we will organize from there. The boys should wear their rugby jerseys, shorts and socks, and tennis shoes. It is a lot of fun and we always get a lot of applause.

It has been a great rugby season and we can think of no better way to end it than to come back from Utah with a National Title. To even be going is a great accomplishment, and we should be very proud of our boys and our Club.
FUND RAISING!
We need to make some money to cover our annual expenses and to help with the Boys Varsity Tour to Nationals next week. So, in light of that, we are going to have a “Fill the Boot” Fundraising Drive this Thursday evening from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. All players (under 12 and older) are welcome to participate (Varsity Boys are required) as we bandage them up, put them on crutches, maybe spill a drop of blood here and there, and stand on the street corners of North First Street and West A Street (downtown), and Pitt School Road and Ary Lane (near McDonalds). It will be a lot of fun, and hopefully result in some much needed funds. We would like to put the younger players downtown and the high school players at Pitt School Road, so please just show up there with your jerseys, shorts, socks and boots around 3:45 pm on Thursday. We will bring the bandages.
Check out the new Fundraising page, with the latest on how to support the Dixon Rugby Club!
Board Meeting
Our DRFC Board Meeting is the 1st Thursday of every month. The May meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 3. Meetings are held at the Salaber Associates, Inc. office, located at 180 South First Street, Suite 10. The meetings are only one (1) hour long. We are always looking for help with team issues, and particularly more members on the committees: fundraising, social, public relations and management. Please attend, it is as much a part of the rugby program as the coaches and players.
