The 2012 Season Is Here!
Now the real excitement begins:  the 2012 Rugby Season.  Dixon has 8 Teams registered with the Northern California Youth Rugby Association (NCYRA) and we have a lot of games, tours, tournaments and events that will be crammed into the next 4 months.

SAN LOIS OBISPO TOUR:  All the Boys Teams (Varsity, JV, Middle School and Under 12) are headed to San Lois Obispo on Friday afternoon and returning on Sunday.  We will be departing from the Hall Park Picnic Area at 12:45, so they need to be there at least 15 minutes early.  The cost for the tour is $40/PLAYER and they need to bring a check or cash on Friday or they will not be able to get in the vans. They should also bring an extra $40+/- for incidentals and meals while we are on the road.  THE PLAYERS ALL NEED TO ATTEND SCHOOL FRIDAY MORNING or we will get in trouble with the schools.  You will need to check them out of school early (at or just before lunch) and you will need to call the school and make arrangements for that.  We will leave in eight 15 man vans, with one coach and a parent per van.  If you are interested in being a traveling parent in the van please reply to this email and let us know, as we may be able to accommodate you.  Parents are welcome to attend the tour and drive themselves, but they cannot drive their player, as the point of the tour is to have the players spend quality time together, crammed in a van.  There are no exceptions to this rule.  If you would like to join the tour please reply to this email and let us know what your plans are.  Once we arrive in San Lois Obispo around 6:00 pm we will meet the other team at Fins Restaurant (25 West Grand Ave, Grover Beach) and they have arranged a bonfire on the beach, or of there is bad weather, a dinner together somewhere else.  The High School and Middle School boys will then be billeted by the other team (they will stay with their opposing players family).  Generally, a family takes two or three players.  The Under 12 boys will stay with the coaches at the Super 8 Motel in San Lois Obispo (if you are coming and want to stay at the same motel, call and ask for the Dixon Rugby rates).  We have a tournament planned for all day Saturday at Tally Field in San Lois Obispo.  We will send out a tour packing list for the boys on Wednesday and have more information on match times and locations at that time.  We will depart from San Lois Obispo on Sunday morning, sometime around 10:00 am, depending on how things go and will be home before 4:00 pm.  Again, we will know more as the end of the week approaches.

GIRLS KICK-OFF TOURNAMENT:  The Girls Varsity Silver Team have their Kick-Off Tournament this Saturday at Azevedo Park in Rocklin.  All the NCYRA Girls Clubs will be there and it will be their first real rugby experience.  It will be a great time.  Our girls are improving every day and even if we do not win many games initially, we have high hopes for them.  The tournament is an all-day event and we will be handing out the schedule once we receive it.  Go Girls!

RUGBY KIT!
We will be handing out all the rugby gear, except the jerseys, on Wednesday.
The jerseys will be arriving later because of a supplier mistake that caused a long delay.  The Middle School and Under 12 players will be getting their gear during practice.  They have a non-conference match against Land Park immediately following practice (Under 12 at 5:30 pm and MS at 6:30 pm).  The High School players will get their gear immediately following practice at the Covered Arena.  Remember that the players only get their gear after they have paid their Annual Dues (or have worked out some payment plan and paid something) and have turned in their sign-up paperwork.

Annual Dues!
The $250 Annual Dues are due Wednesday, January 18.
Please write a check to DRFC or bring cash.  The dues pay for all league and officiating dues/costs, their entire rugby kit (sweat top, jersey, shorts and socks), team equipment, etc.  If you have a financial problem and cannot afford paying the entire $250 please let us know and we will work out a plan that works for you.  However, the player must pay something, whatever they can afford, on Wednesday, otherwise they cannot get their gear.  Also, they need to have all their sign-up paperwork submitted by this time.

Picture Day!
Pictures will be taken on Thursday, January 19 at 3:30 pm. All players will have their picture taken for the team program and a team photo. Individual and team photos will be available at extra cost. Players will receive photo packets at Wednesday's practice. Players should bring their completed form and payment on Thursday. If players forget their form and payment, they can still complete a form the day of the photo shoot and pay later. Photos will be taken, rain or shine - if it rains, we'll use the soccer shelter at Hall Park. It is imperative that the players all wear their new rugby gear that they received on Wednesday to the pictures on Thursday.  In addition, all the players that played last year MUST BRING THEIR JERSEYS FROM LAST YEAR, so that we can use them for the pictures (because our new ones have not arrived yet).

Any questions on the photos, contact Jeff Richmond using the link at the bottom of this page.

Board Meeting
Our DRFC Board Meeting is the 1st Thursday of every month.  The next meeting will be the regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at 6:30 pm at Salaber Associates, Inc. office, located at 180 South First Street, Suite 10.  The meetings are only one (1) hour long.  We are always looking for help with team issues, and particularly more members on the committees: fundraising, social, public relations and management.  Please attend, it is as much a part of the rugby program as the coaches and players.
